5. Further communication with the applicant
Overview
If, in the opinion of the examining division, the application can be amended to bring it into a form that meets the requirements of the EPC, then the first examiner member should be entrusted with informing the applicant of the division's opinion that the application should be refused on certain grounds unless satisfactory amendments are submitted within a stated period (see C‑VI, 1). If, within the time limit, satisfactory amendments are made, the examiner will then report back to the division recommending that the application should proceed to grant. If not, they should report back recommending refusal.
