Protection from water

Decorative image

Solutions for dealing with the destructive power of water as a hazard are considered in this section. These include coastal protection, such as dunes and cliffs, prevention of water erosion, and flood protection and its management.

The protective structures are divided into hard structures, such as dams and seawalls, and vegetated structures, such as e.g. artificial reefs and seaweed plantations.

A separate area is forecasting, where approaches such as risk analysis, storm forecasting, hurricane or flood forecasting, etc. are considered.
