Chapter IX – Drawings

This chapter of the Guidelines deals with the requirements to be met by drawings contained in the application or patent. Guidance on the presentation of application documents, including drawings, is provided in the decision of the President of the EPO dated 25 November 2022 (OJ EPO 2022, A113, Rule 49(2)), which is the legal basis for the practice described in the following sections. However, it should be noted that the comments on the provisions of Rule 49 apply generally to the documents making up the European patent application and documents replacing them.
