Connecting MyEPO services with users' IP management systems
Providing user-friendly and efficient services is a priority for the European Patent Office (EPO). We are committed to a fully digital patent granting process while meeting changing needs of our users. This is a core commitment of our Strategic Plan 2028.
Recognising that many companies rely on their own IP management systems, the EPO began last year to develop business-to-business technical interfaces, known as Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), to facilitate seamless data exchange between MyEPO services and various IP systems.
The EPO has recently deployed new APIs, the latest in a growing range of products that empower users' IT departments to automate data exchange effectively.
We now offer the following APIs for MyEPO services:
- the MyEPO Portfolio API for retrieving and updating Mailbox content and information about applications. This covers the Mailbox, due fees, due dates, bibliographic data, schedule of fees, user references and portfolio information.
- the Online Filing 2.0 API for submitting EP forms.
MyEPO APIs are in line with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) recommendations for processing and communicating intellectual property data using Web APIs, specifically WIPO Standard ST.90. Comprehensive information is available via the links at the bottom of this page.
Looking ahead
- The use of smart cards for accessing EPO online services will no longer be possible as of 1 January 2025 when two-factor authentication (2FA) will become the sole mechanism to access MyEPO services. Don’t forget to switch to 2FA now if you did not do it yet!
- The Webform Filing tool as well as the Online Filing software (eOLF) version 5.14 will be discontinued as of 1 January 2025. Online Filing software (eOLF) version 5.15 which allows login with 2FA will remain available. Switch to our Online Filing 2.0 web application instead!
