Address for service - European patents (UK)
Rule 30 of the Patents Rules 1990, as amended with effect from 1 November 1993, permits the proprietor of a European patent (UK) to notify the Comptroller of an address for service outside the UK, providing there are no proceedings before the UK Patent Office. The amended rule also provides that where the Comptroller is not notified of an address for service for the proprietor of a European patent (UK), the proprietor's address on the register will be considered as his address for service, even if this address is outside the United Kingdom.
Consequently, the UK Patent Office will no longer issue a reminder to the proprietor of a newly granted European patent (UK) that an address for service is outstanding but will, where appropriate, issue a reminder concerning the requirement to file an English translation of any European patent (UK) published in French or German.
