Proceedings on registration for unitary effect requested by Russian patent holders to be stayed in view of latest EU sanctions against Russia
This precautionary measure, decided by the President of the EPO and as published in the Official Journal today, is taken pending further discussions with the EPO’s member states.
Following publication of the 14th EU package on sanctions against Russia through Council Regulation (EU) 2024/1745, the EPO stays proceedings on registration of unitary effect resulting from requests filed or co-filed by Russian patent holders falling under the scope of this sanctions package until further notice. This precautionary stay will apply until a decision by the participating member states represented in the Select Committee. Deliberations will also take place with all EPO member states on the impact of the EU’s 14th package of sanctions against Russia.
