EPAC 2024 draws to a successful conclusion
The European patent administration certification (EPAC) continues to consolidate its position as a cornerstone in the professional growth of European patent administrators.
The European Patent Office (EPO) congratulates all those who successfully passed the European patent administration certification (EPAC) in 2024. This certification enables paralegals, patent administrators and formalities officers to demonstrate that they have the required knowledge and skills to deal independently and autonomously with the procedures associated with the filing, prosecution, grant and maintenance of European and international patent applications before the EPO, as well as post-grant procedures.
Expanded reach in Europe and beyond
Since the launch of the EPAC in 2022, more than 1 100 candidates have sat the exam. Approximately 80% work in industry or private attorney practice, 7% at patent offices and 13% in other roles, including academia and technology transfer. The certification upholds the highest standards in patent administration, not just in Europe but worldwide. This reach is underscored by the diversity of candidates: in just three years, the EPAC has attracted participants from 60 nations, with 87% from EPC member states and 13% from Asia, Australia and America. These milestones reflect the EPO’s ongoing efforts to advance professional standards in patent administration.
Access to valuable learning material
The EPO is committed to supporting professional growth through the European Patent Academy by offering training resources to all patent professionals, whether they wish to enrol for certifications such as EPAC or develop their skills.
A dedicated EPAC preparation course will commence in the Spring, with registration planned for February 2025. These details will be published in due course - please check the EPO’s website, newsletter or social media channels for the announcement.
