CEIPI training for the foundation paper F of the EQE 2025
CEIPI is known for its complete range of high-quality courses preparing for the European qualifying examination (EQE), using proprietary high-quality training material. This programme enables candidates to increase their chances of success.
The foundation paper F will be offered for the first time in 2025 and takes the place of the pre-examination paper. Paper F is intended for those candidates who fulfil the requirements to present themselves for this examination (see the new Regulation on the EQE; OJ EPO 2024, A4).
CEIPI is organising, as part of the Euro-CEIPI collaboration with the European Patent Academy, training courses to help candidates prepare for the new foundation paper. The training consists of a five-day seminar in October 2024 completed by a "mock exam" course in February 2025. The main seminar will be offered either as a ʺStrasbourg seminarʺ or remotely. Experience has shown that the on-site training format prepares candidates most efficiently for the examination because it facilitates intense communication between tutors and participants and among the course participants. The CEIPI therefore recommends giving priority to the on-site training format. However, in order to also prepare those candidates for the EQE 2025 who cannot attend the Strasbourg seminar, this seminar will also be offered as online training.
The online seminar uses the same teaching material as the on-site training and is also hosted by the team of experienced CEIPI tutors.
The "mock exam" course, which aims at putting candidates under the exam conditions of the e-EQE, will only be organised online.
The tutors for these courses have extensive training experience, they are a mix of professional representatives (from private practice and industry) and staff of the EPO and of the Boards of Appeal.
Long years' statistics show that the EQE pre-examination pass rate for candidates having attended the CEIPI preparation courses is very high. Similar effects are expected for the training for paper F.
Enrolment for the complete CEIPI course offer for the foundation paper 2025 will allow candidates to benefit from a "package" discount. Further information is available on our website ceipi.edu.
I. Main seminar
The main seminar preparing for the foundation paper 2025 will take place from 21 to 25 October 2024. It can be attended, at the participants' choice, either as on-site training in Strasbourg or as online training on the same dates.
Participants are expected to have a sound working knowledge of patent law. The teaching material will be designed in accordance with presently available information with regard to the expected style of the foundation paper and will take into account the different types of questions which the new paper might comprise.
The paper F seminar will cover the following topics:
(a) legal questions relating to the candidates' knowledge of the relevant provisions, including the EPC, the Implementing Regulations to the EPC, the Rules relating to Fees, the PCT, the Regulations under the PCT, the PCT Applicant's Guide, the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Guidelines for Examination in the EPO and the Guidelines for Search and Examination at the EPO as PCT Authority
(b) questions on the interpretation of claims, on assessing the compliance of claims and the invention to which they pertain with the provisions of the EPC, and on assessing the compliance of proposed amendments with the provisions of the EPC.
During the foundation paper seminar, participants will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a mock examination.
The foundation paper seminar will be held in all three official languages of the EPO (English, French and German).
The fee is EUR 1 900 for the five-day seminar.
Please note that early enrolment is advisable.
The closing date for receipt of all applications is 27 September 2024.
For organisational reasons, the number of participants has to be limited. Applications will be treated by CEIPI on a first come, first served basis. If the seminars are oversubscribed, names will be put on a waiting list.
More information on the programme of the seminar as well as on other courses can be found on the CEIPI website ceipi.edu under Non-degree courses/Preparation for the EQE.

II. "Mock exam" course for the EQE Foundation Paper 2025
To complete the above programme, CEIPI offers candidates wishing to improve their skills in respect of the foundation paper F, a "mock exam" course in which candidates put themselves under examination conditions and write a foundation paper within the same time as available in the EQE. The mock exam course will be organised online.
With the presentation of a CEIPI model solution for this mock examination, the feedback of a tutor and the possibility of asking last-minute questions, candidates will have a better idea of whether certain issues need closer study and/or which skills should be further trained.
There is no point coming to this course insufficiently prepared, as this will either hold up the other candidates or the pace will be too fast.
Please note that early enrolment is advisable.
Depending on the available capacity the participants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis. If the courses are oversubscribed, names will be put on a waiting list.
This "mock exam" course will take place, in all three official languages of the EPO (English, French and German) as a two-day course on Thursday, 6 February and Friday, 7 February 2025. The intensive course is offered as online training.
The fee for this course is EUR 800.
The closing date for receipt of application is 10 January 2025.
