European patents – Strasbourg seminars to prepare for the EQE 2003, involving the European Patent Office and European patent practitioners
The Centre for International Industrial Property Studies (CEIPI) is holding two one-week seminars in Strasbourg to help candidates prepare for the European qualifying examination (EQE) 2003.
Participants are expected to have reached an advanced stage in their own preparations for the examination. To this end, an information get-together on Paper D will be held in Strasbourg on 27 September 2002.
The working texts for the seminar are largely based on past EQE papers. Both seminars will incorporate papers from EQE 2002.
The participants in the seminars should only be those candidates who will take the EQE 2003.
The January seminar on Paper D (legal questions) will take place from 20 to 24 January 2003.
Its aim is to enable candidates to answer the legal questions substantively and within the time allowed. It serves as a final test for the EQE.
The method involves independent work under the tutors' supervision, plus discussion of the answers. Candidates learn the different approaches needed to tackle the "subsidiary" Part I questions and the "main" question, and practise these techniques.
The February seminar on Papers A, B and C will take place from 17 to 21 February 2003.
Programme: How to tackle each paper, on the basis of past papers. Drafting claims and the introduction to the description. Replying to examining division communications, amendment of claims, and drafting a notice of opposition and a reply to the client on the basis of the 2002 EQE papers.
The seminars' European character is reflected in the international mix of tutors and participants. Group-based work ensures discussion between the two.
The February seminar will have groups for chemical and non-chemical subject-matter in each official language.
Participants must know an EPO language (English, French or German).
Participant numbers are limited to ensure proper discussion between the tutor and the group. Enrolment will be accepted in chronological order as long as places are available.
The fee for each seminar (EUR 790) includes lunch for four days.
