EPO President Alison Brimelow has congratulated Francis Gurry on his appointment as Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
In a letter sent to Mr Gurry last week, the President extended her "warmest congratulations" on behalf of the European Patent Organisation and the staff of the European Patent Office.
The Australian national was appointed by the WIPO General Assembly for a six-year term on 22 September. He takes up his duties today, 1 October.
Mr Gurry joined WIPO in 1985 and has held a number of positions there since. Prior to joining the organisation, he practiced law and held a number of academic positions. He is WIPO's fourth Director General.
