How to take part

This year, for the first time ever, the EPO and European Commission called on the public to propose inventors as the European Inventor of the Year 2009.

The deadline for entries for the European Inventor of the Year awards 2009 has passed. We regret that submissions received by the EPO after 2 October 2008 can not be considered for the 2009 contest.

However, you can propose an inventor for the 2010 awards by filling out our form. The same rules of participation apply as for 2009, with the exception that the European patent must have been granted before 1 January 2005

Who is eligible?

Any inventor possessing at least one valid European patent granted before 1 January 2004 can enter or be proposed.

What information do I need to provide?

To propose an inventor for the award you need to send us the following information:

  • the completed entry form, and
  • a supporting statement

In addition, candidates who enter themselves in the competition need to provide:

  • a current curriculum vitae
  • references, and
  • a description of the inventor's entrepreneurial background

Dates and deadlines

Closing date for entries: 2 October 2008

Announcement of nominees: March 2009

Award ceremony in Prague: 28 April 2009

Exclusions

There is no right of recourse. Nor can entries be accepted regarding inventors who have already been nominees or winners in previous European Inventor of the Year events.

Rules for participation

Please read the rules for participation carefully before completing the entry form.
