EPO workshop "Intellectual property helps regions innovating" and PATLIB Stand
Brussels, Belgium, 6-9 October 2008
Regional innovation has been earmarked as a priority of the EU Cohesion and Regional policy for 2007-2013.
The European Patent Office is inviting you to participate to its workshop "Intellectual Property helps regions innovating" and to visit its PATLIB stand in the frame of the Open Days 2008, co-organised by the European Commission DG Regional Policy and the Committee of the Regions.
The EPO will highlight three existing projects to be presented by its respective partners:
Technology Transfer Offices in Universities (TTO) - Alexandru Cristian Strenc (OSIM)
The TTO pilot project aims to increase the technology transfer between public research institutions and industry. The idea of the pilot project is to make the Intellectual Property (IP) expertise of national patent offices available to universities in order to foster technology transfer.
Pre-diagnosis for SMEs - Pascal Duyck (INPI) and Marián Michalovský
(INDROP)
Today, some actors in Europe do not fully exploit the existing possibilities, the pre-diagnosis project allows companies to have a forward-looking vision on the own competitive assets and is an opportunity to develop an IP strategy. The objective is to support SMEs in the evaluation of their IP assets. The approach proposes an analysis of the potential offered to a company by the IP system.
IP4Inno - Robert Sanders (EBN)
The ip4inno project, co-funded by the European Commission and 19 partners from EU Member and Candidate States, aims to increase the understanding and the usage of intellectual property, with a view to increasing innovation and competitiveness in line with the Lisbon goals. In doing so, it will address the continuously low level of understanding of the usefulness of IP management in the innovation process. To this end, the project is based on the development of training modules on IP and on the subsequent training of multipliers in pilot regions, who will be in a position to train SMEs on IP.
The workshop aims at encouraging regional players to discuss intellectual property as an element for creating a better innovation environment. It provides an opportunity to bring stakeholders up to speed on various aspects of the EPO's work.

In total, over 328 such centres in Europe assist interested parties with information and competent advice. Working in the language of the country concerned, PATLIBs are familiar with the needs and requirements of local industry, research and trade, and are able to provide them with relevant information on intellectual property rights especially to SMEs, regions, private inventors and academics.
In addition to the traditional services provided by the PATLIB centres such as Patent document search, Prior art search, Legal information and Market research and business information, a new range of services will be presented by the experts:
